How does Sparks's technique of telling the story in a flashback format enrich the story? What is it about flashback that makes a story better, or more real?
Chapter one ends with the following:
and for the first time she looked--well, almost pretty. Of course I dismissed that thought right away, but as she looked around the room, she stopped and smiled right at me, obviously glad to see that I was in the class. It wasn't until later that I would learn the reason why.
Why do you think Jamie is glad Landon is in her class? Why did the author choose to end the chapter with that last sentence---in other words, what does that last sentence contribute to the text?
His technique of telling the story in flashback makes it seem like it's happening in present time. Telling the story in flashback makes it more real because it's a memory the author is sharing but he's telling it as if it's happening presently.
ReplyDeleteI think Jamie is glad Landon is in her class because she wants him to be apart of the christmas play. The last sentence contributes to the text because it's foreshadowing on something that will happen in the future.
Spark's technique of telling the story in a flashback format makes the story more real. The reader feels like he/she had experienced it by his/her own and is more sympathized. The story becomes more lively and comprehensible.
ReplyDeleteJamie trusts in God and believes that everything that happens is actually his plan. The protagonist lived a naughty life and was known for that. Jamie thinks probably that he was supposed to be in this class and that this year in the drama class will improve and enrich his life. Maybe she had already a plan in her mind.
The last sentence of the first chapter seems to me like an introduction. The reader becomes animated to think about it and is therefore more involved in the happenings. He/she is curios to learn why Jamie is glad and what she maybe planned. This will probably be explained in the following chapters.
His use of flashback is used to make the chapter end with a cliffhanger. this lead you to think about what jamie is thinking

1) I think it makes the novel seem more intresting because it is more of a memory more than anything using the past as to the present. It just makes the story seem more exciting to really not know what is going to happen next in the story.
ReplyDelete2) Im not too sure yet, but it may be that she is so happy because she may like him, and is glad that she has a class with Landon.
3) This to me contributes to the text by leaving the chapter off exciting and for the author to be able to start where he/she last left off.

ReplyDeletei beilieve jamie is happy to see landon in her class beacuse she wants to see him more involed in school, and try to get invloed in over all.
the last sentence contrubuts in foreshadowing, by letting the readers know that something is going happened between Jamie and London, and that is more coming to the story.
Spark's technique for using flashblacks make the book more personal like your right there or your a close friend. It also lets you know about his past so you know more about the reasons for some things that happen later. It also lets you know what happened in their past
ReplyDeleteI think the reason that Jamie is happy to see Landon is because he is the only other boy in the drama class besides the other one and she wants Landon to do the christmas play.
The story ends this way because you will read about them later on in the book.
sparks technique of flashback makes you stand on your toes and wonder what is goin to happen next. It makes it seem more real like something that actually happens in real life, other than just some fantasy.
ReplyDeleteI believe Jamie was happy to see him because she was attracted to him and thought that she and he could actually get to know each other for once and he'd realize life isnt all what he thought it was to be, and would learn greater things from her. I also believe he ended it with the last sentence to make you wonder what is going to happen next.
